After Edison invented the phonograph, he went on to discover other uses for the device. One invention was this talking doll. Inside the doll is a small phonograph that plays pre-recorded messages.
The message in this doll is one of the original recordings used in the toys. It is a recording of the Mother Goose rhyme Little Jack Horner, which goes:
"Little Jack Horner sat in the corner, eating his Christmas pie.
He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum, and said, 'My what a good boy am I!'"
